AFBT GOVERNING COUNCIL

Greetings. Today I would like to share with all of you my vision for the future:

I envision a society where everyone may contribute their unique talents and expect utility and equal dispensation for their efforts. A society that does not impose punitive consequences for some because the very talent they exhibit exceeds the perceived ability level of their particular gender, race, socioeconomic status, or belief system.

Unfortunately, my vision is Utopian at best and, by present standards, completely unattainable at worst. That is why a way must be found to circumvent current practices in order to effect positive change for those who, despite their absolute best efforts, cannot come out ahead in this life and find themselves on the losing side without hope of redress.

Welcome. Over the course of my life I have come to recognize that inconsistencies exist that should readily be overcome: Millions are starving while obesity rates in other areas are on the rise. Homelessness abounds while thousands of lots go vacant for years. Sickness and disease still afflict many while treatments exist but are unattainable to those who need it most.

Worse still are those that have performed a great service to their country but due to bureaucracy and expanded procedure find that they cannot gain access to the benefits that they have duly earned. We must find or create solutions to these social ills that prevent all of us from advancing, for if one of us suffers, then indeed we are all suffering.

Hello. Equality is essential to the continued success of our civilization. At every level of society, equal representation ensures the common good for each community. We must remain cognizant that a large demographic of our society has yet to realize full potential due to subtle but persistent barriers to progress.

My goal in joining the Alliance is to further public awareness of such barriers so as to find better ways to eliminate these hideous and arcane obstacles. It is my sincere hope that awareness of the problem will enhance the lives of at least some of those most affected by intolerance and ignorance.

Greetings.  The foremost reason that I am here today is that our society is plagued with a cancer- and that cancer is debt and ignorance:  Ignorance of how money works, ignorance of the advantages and the disadvantages of debt.

Our society does not teach people how to manage their money.  Our culture is based on uncontrolled spending and unlimited credit.  However, if we are to pull our country, and the world, out of the current trench that we have dug, then knowledge is key.  No person can be truly financially independent without it.

For the majority of Americans who are afflicted with homelessness, there is a grave shortage of facilities to provide a regulated standard of living. In order for us to effectively reach out and assist the poorest among us, we must first be made aware of the severity of the situation: Being homeless is not an elective for most- either through substance abuse, mental illness or domestic violence, those finding themselves without shelter often do so due to factors that are beyond their control.

How can the rest of us help? One way is by upholding family values as a preventive measure. Displaying empathy on the part of each family member for one in a time of crisis can do much to stymie a descent into amoral behavior, poverty, homelessness, substance abuse, violence, and eventually, death itself. It is only by means of a collective effort and a broadened appreciation for this social ill that real progress could ever hope to be achieved.
